What is the Treatment Plan Generator?
Creating treatment plans shouldn't feel like filling out paperwork. This tool transforms the tedious
process of documenting clinical plans into something actually manageable.
Whether working with depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use, or any of the 11 included conditions,
the generator provides a structured framework that helps organize thoughts, set measurable goals,
and select evidence-based interventions. Everything stays on the local device—no server uploads, no
cloud storage requirements, just browser-based privacy.
Built specifically for therapists, counselors, social workers, and mental health professionals who
need documentation that meets clinical standards without the administrative burden.
Why Use This Instead of Paper or Word Documents?
Traditional methods mean starting from scratch every time, remembering which interventions work for
which conditions, and hoping nothing gets lost when a computer crashes. Here's what makes this
different:
-
11 Evidence-Based Templates: Each template includes SMART goals,
research-backed interventions with citations, and appropriate progress indicators. Load a
template for Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, Substance Use, OCD,
Panic Disorder, Bipolar, Grief, Couples Therapy, or Eating Disorders—then customize.
-
Auto-Save Every 30 Seconds: The tool automatically saves draft work to browser
session storage. If the browser crashes or accidentally closes a tab, there's a recovery prompt
on next visit. No more "I forgot to save and lost everything."
-
Export to JSON for Backup: Download all treatment plans as a JSON file that can
be imported later. Store backups locally, on encrypted drives, or wherever makes sense for
practice workflow. Full data portability.
-
Print to PDF: Every plan includes a clean print stylesheet. Use the browser's
print function (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P) and save as PDF for EHR uploads, insurance documentation, or
client records.
-
100% Local Storage: Everything stays in the browser's localStorage. No account
required, no data sent to servers, completely HIPAA-friendly for confidential
client
information.
How to Create a Treatment Plan
Option 1: Start with a Template (Recommended)
-
Click "Create Your First Treatment Plan" or "New Plan"
-
In the amber "Quick Start with Templates" section at the top, select a diagnosis from the
dropdown
-
Watch as the form auto-populates with 3 SMART goals, 5-6 evidence-based interventions (with
research citations), and appropriate progress indicators
-
Customize everything—delete what doesn't fit, edit goals to match the specific client
presentation, add personal intervention style
-
Fill in patient information, presenting problem, risk assessment, and scheduling details
-
Click "Save Treatment Plan"—done in 5-8 minutes instead of 20+
Option 2: Build from Scratch
Leave the template dropdown at "Start from scratch" and manually enter everything. Use the +
Add Goal and + Add Intervention buttons to build the plan piece by
piece. Quick-add buttons for common interventions (CBT, DBT, EMDR, etc.) speed things up.
Editing Existing Plans
From the plans list, click any plan to view it. Hit the "Edit" button to make
changes. The auto-save kicks in as edits happen, so work is never lost.
Available Templates
Each template comes pre-loaded with condition-specific content based on current clinical best
practices:
Major Depressive Disorder: PHQ-9 tracking goals, behavioral activation,
cognitive restructuring (Beck et al.), mood monitoring
Generalized Anxiety Disorder: GAD-7 reduction targets, mindfulness
(Kabat-Zinn), worry exposure, uncertainty tolerance work
PTSD: PCL-5 measures, prolonged exposure (Foa), CPT (Resick), EMDR, safety
planning
ADHD (Adult): Executive function coaching, CBT for ADHD (Safren), time
management, impulse control mindfulness
Substance Use Disorder: Motivational interviewing (Miller & Rollnick), relapse
prevention, recovery support engagement
OCD: Y-BOCS tracking, exposure and response prevention (Foa), cognitive therapy
(Wilhelm & Steketee), ritual prevention
Panic Disorder: Panic control treatment (Barlow), interoceptive exposure,
catastrophic misinterpretation work
Bipolar Disorder: Mood charting, social rhythm therapy (Frank),
psychoeducation, medication adherence
Grief/Loss: Worden's tasks of mourning, meaning reconstruction (Neimeyer),
complicated grief treatment
Couples Therapy: Gottman method, emotionally
focused therapy (EFT/Johnson),
communication skills
Eating Disorders: CBT-E (Fairburn), nutritional rehabilitation, family-based
treatment (Lock & Le Grange)
All interventions include research citations so supervisors, insurance reviewers, or licensing
boards can see the evidence base. Templates serve as starting points—clinical judgment always guides
the final plan.
Exporting, Importing, and Backup
Export All Plans (Backup)
Click the "Export" button on the plans list page. This downloads a JSON file with
all treatment plans named treatment-plans-backup-YYYY-MM-DD.json. Store this file on an
encrypted drive, practice management system, or secure cloud storage. Think of it as insurance
against browser cache clearing, computer failures, or accidental deletions.
Import Plans (Restore)
Click "Import" and select a previously exported JSON file. The tool asks for
confirmation before merging imported plans with existing ones—current plans stay intact, imported
plans get added to the list. Perfect for moving between computers or recovering from a device
switch.
Export to PDF
Open any treatment plan and click "Export PDF" (or use the browser's print
function: Ctrl+P on Windows, Cmd+P on Mac). The print stylesheet removes navigation, buttons, and
other screen-only elements. Save as PDF through the print dialog for a clean, professional document
ready for EHR upload or client files.
Browser Storage & Data Location
All treatment plans live in browser localStorage—a secure, sandboxed storage area on the local
device. No data leaves the computer. No cloud sync, no server storage, no third-party access. This
is intentionally designed for HIPAA compliance and client confidentiality.
Important: Clearing browser cache or using "Clear browsing data" will delete
treatment plans. Always export backups regularly. The auto-save feature only protects against
crashes, not manual cache clearing.
Using on Mobile Devices
The tool is fully responsive and mobile-friendly. Tap the menu icon (☰) in the top-right corner on
phones to access Features, Pricing, and trial links. All functionality works on tablets and
smartphones, though treatment plan creation is admittedly easier on a larger screen with a keyboard.
Mobile usage is great for quick reviews, checking existing plans during sessions, or making minor
edits. Creating full plans from scratch? Desktop or laptop recommended for efficiency.

Common Questions
Is this really free forever?
Yes. No trial period, no feature locks, no surprise charges. This tool exists as a standalone
utility and will remain free indefinitely.
Is this HIPAA compliant?
The tool doesn't transmit data to servers, which eliminates most HIPAA concerns. However,
professionals are responsible for ensuring their own device security, using encrypted storage
for backups, and following organizational policies. This tool provides the technical
foundation—practice policies handle the rest.
Can multiple people use this on the same computer?
Each browser profile has separate localStorage. If different people use separate browser
profiles or accounts, their treatment plans won't mix. If sharing one profile, export plans
before another person uses the tool.
What if I need to add more templates?
The 11 included templates cover most common presentations. For conditions not listed, start from
scratch or use the closest template as a starting point and heavily customize. Future updates
may include additional templates based on user feedback.
Can I share plans with supervisors or colleagues?
Export to PDF and share the document file. Since there's no collaborative editing or sharing
features in this free tool, PDF export is the way to distribute plans.

Templates are educational starting points, not prescriptive protocols. Every client
is unique. Every situation requires professional assessment. The interventions and goals suggested
in templates reflect general best practices but must be tailored to individual circumstances.
Users assume full responsibility for all clinical decisions and documentation created using this
