Privacy & Data
Is Genosm HIPAA compliant?
Yes. Genosm uses a local-first architecture. Your patient data is stored exclusively in your browser's secure database (IndexedDB) on your device. We do not transmit or store your clinical data on our servers, which simplifies HIPAA compliance as the data never leaves your control.
Where is my data stored?
Your data is stored locally on the device you are using. We use the browser's IndexedDB system. This ensures maximum privacy and security but means you are responsible for backing up your data (using the JSON export feature) if you clear your browser cache.
Do you use my data to train AI?
No. The text you send to the AI assistant for generating genograms is processed statelessly and is not used to train our models. We have strict data agreements to ensure zero-retention for API processing.
Features & Usage
Can I collaborate with my team?
Currently, Genosm is a single-user application designed for individual privacy. We do not support real-time collaboration at this time to maintain our strict security posture. You can share genograms by exporting them as JSON files.
What happens if I lose internet connection?
Genosm works fully offline! Once the app is loaded, you can create, edit, and analyze genograms without an internet connection. AI features will require a connection, but manual editing is always available offline.
Is there a downloadable desktop app?
Yes! Genosm is available as a downloadable desktop application for both Mac and Windows. The desktop version provides a more native experience while maintaining our 100% local-first privacy model — all your data stays on your computer.
Can I create ecomaps with Genosm?
Yes! Create standalone ecomaps to map social support networks, OR integrate them with your genograms for comprehensive visualization. Add external systems (work, school, health, community, etc.) with connection types (strong, weak, stressful) and flow directions. Use ecomaps independently for case management or overlay them on family genograms for complete ecological assessment.
Can I create medical pedigree charts?
Absolutely! Create standalone genetic pedigree charts for genetic counseling OR add pedigree data to existing genograms. Features include NSGC-compliant visualization (quadrant shading, carrier dots), OMIM condition search via Monarch API, HPO phenotype terms, genetic test result tracking, and automatic inheritance pattern detection (autosomal dominant/recessive, X-linked, mitochondrial). Perfect for genetic counselors and medical professionals.
Can I export to Word or PowerPoint?
You can export your genograms as high-quality PNG images which can be easily dragged and dropped into Microsoft Word or PowerPoint documents. We also support PDF export for direct reporting.
Can I track changes over time?
Yes! We've just released Version Tracking based on your feedback — our most requested feature! You can now create snapshots of your genograms at any point in time, compare versions with visual diff highlights, and navigate through your document history. Perfect for tracking long-term patient cases, documenting treatment progress, and maintaining HIPAA-compliant audit trails. Click the Timeline button in the topbar to get started!
Can I track cause of death on the genogram?
Yes! You can now specify the cause of death for any deceased individual. The system automatically searches for the appropriate ICD-10 code and displays it on the genogram as a standardized label, ensuring clinical accuracy.

Is there a free trial?
Yes, we offer a 7-day full-access free trial (credit card required) for monthly and yearly plans. You can test all Pro features, including AI generation and clinical insights. The Lifetime plan does not include a trial as it's a one-time purchase.
What is the Lifetime plan?
Our Lifetime plan offers permanent access to all core Genosm features for a one-time payment of $149.99. This plan is perfect for professionals who prefer manual genogram creation and don't need AI-powered features.
Lifetime plan includes:

How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel anytime from your account settings. Navigate to Settings → Billing to manage your subscription. Your access will continue until the end of the current billing period. The Lifetime plan cannot be cancelled as it's a one-time purchase with permanent access.
Does the AI support multiple languages?
Yes! Our AI-powered genogram generation and clinical insights support all major languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, and many more. Simply describe your family scenario or request clinical analysis in your preferred language, and the AI will respond accordingly.
